Elemental mercury is readily trapped by sulphur-based trapping materials which enable the fixation of volatile mercury in the form of non-volatile cinnabar: HgS.

Mercury species under metallic form are removed in separate vessels containing either AxTrap™ 273 or AxTrap™ 271. The adsorbers can be located either upstream or downstream of the dryers.

AxTrap™ 273 is composed of a metal sulfide on mesoporous alumina material. The same product is also used to eliminate elemental mercury from hydrogenate LPG and full range condensate.
