Elemental mercury is readily trapped by sulphur-based trapping materials which enable the fixation of volatile mercury in the form of non-volatile cinnabar: HgS.

Mercury species under metallic form are removed in separate vessels containing either CMG 273 or CMG 275. The adsorbers can be located either upstream or downstream of the dryers.

CMG 273 is composed of a metal sulfide on mesoporous alumina material. The same product is also used to eliminate elemental mercury from hydrogenate LPG and full range condensate.
