The conventional path to benzene reduction in gasoline employs a hydrogenation unit downstream from the reformate splitter to saturate the benzene contained in the distillate.
The BenfreeTM process integrates reactive hydrogenation with the reformate splitter column reducing equipment and associated costs. This simple integrated reactive distillation concept provides excellent benzene saturation with the easiest operability.
Since Benfree’s 1998 debut, three units have been licensed; the first two started-up in 2000. Six conventional benzene saturation units on light reformate are currently in operation as well.
