Alkyfining^TM is the market leader for upgrading alkylation plant feeds. By converting butadiene to butenes and isomerizing 1-butene to 2-butenes (for higher alkylate octane), Alkyfining^TM greatly enhances alkylation plant performance.

Butadiene makes unwanted high boiling oligomers often called sludge or Acid-Soluble Oil (ASO). When ASO is removed, significant amounts of alkylation catalyst (HF or H₂SO₄) leave with it. ASO is hazardous and difficult to dispose of properly; its very presence signifies yield and catalyst loss. Alkyfining^TM solves these problems producing some very attractive results.

With respective Alkyfining^TM market shares of 70% and 95% of the HF and H₂SO₄ alkylation feed pretreatment plants, Axens is the world’s leading player. Currently there are over 80 Axens units licensed for a total capacity of 700 000 BPSD.
