The MultibedÔ technology consists of combinations of special aluminas and zeolitic molecular sieves. Those adsorbents are loaded either in same or separate vessels depending upon the application.
The main functions of the aluminas are to work as catalysts and adsorbents, or in combinations of both, to adsorb contaminants such as HCL, Hg, AsH3, and TBC. The molecular sieves remove the contaminants by physical adsorption. In Multibed Technology, mercury can be removed either upstream or downstream from the drying section. Most of the adsorbents are regenerated thermally with nitrogen or light hydrocarbon streams.
