CO2 Management

Although the Kyoto Protocol has yet to be ratified and will probably continue to evolve, there is no doubt that in the coming years, carbon dioxide (CO2) will be "Public Enemy Number One" for many companies, particularly those in the hydrocarbon industries.

For example, no later than January 2005, European Union refiners will have to cope with the European Directive approved on July 22, 2003, that establishes a scheme for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions allowances.

Axens has developed a methodology that enables operators to fulfil the European Directive and even to financially profit from it. Thus, the Directive represents an unique development that can be advantageously employed to the refinery's economic gain. Our process engineering skills, in-depth knowledge of industrial operations and expertise in international procedures, are particularly beneficial in the implementation of a three step CO2 management program:
- initial measurement, via carbon balances that reflect the plant's current operation
- site-specific diagnosis and advice to reduce GHG emissions
- solution: implementation following a step-wise approach.
