The MTBE advanced control package combines Axens' latest generation multivariable controller MVAC, in association with on line inferential reactor models; it is designed to maximize the benefits from MTBE process at the lowest operating cost.


As a process licensor and advanced control technology supplier, Axens combines all the necessary expertise for successful MTBE APC projects.



A nine-step control strategy

* control of methanol to isobutylene molar ratio in the reactor feed
* maximization of isobutylene to MTBE conversion in the main reactor, over the life of the catalyst
* control of reactor bed outlet temperature
* control of methanol to total C4's molar ratio in the catalytic column
* maximization of conversion in the catalytic column
* control of internal traffic at top of the catalytic column
* control of the C4's concentration in the MTBE product
* catalyst deactivation monitoring
* throuput maximization


The MTBE control package uses Axens' MTBE reactor models to estimate the conversion of the products at reactor outlet.


Axens' inferential technology is used for on-line estimation of key parameters of the catalytic column.
