June 5, 2008 - "Korea’s S-Oil selects ParamaX Technologies for No.2 Aromatics Complex"
S-Oil Corporation has selected Axens’ ParamaX® Technology Suite for the No.2 Aromatics complex at the Onsan refinery in South Korea. The new 1,180,000 metric ton per year (tpy) plant will add capacities of 900,000 tpy paraxylene and 280,000 tpy benzene. Plant start-up is planned during the first half of 2011.
ParamaX designates a suite of technologies for the production of paraxylene and benzene from naphtha. Axens and ExxonMobil Chemical have entered into an Alliance to provide paraxylene production technologies for grassroots paraxylene complexes around the world. Uhde’s Morphylane process is also a part of the suite.
The ParamaX technologies included in the complex are:
The new Eluxyl unit will set the standard for economies of scale. It will be the world’s largest single train unit, and add to the 650,000 tpy paraxylene from the existing Eluxyl unit in Onsan in operation since 1997.
Since 2005, Axens has been awarded 8 ParamaX complexes for a cumulative paraxylene plus benzene production capacity of 9.3 million tpa. There are currently 7 Eluxyl units in operation and 7 under various stages of design and construction. ___________________ Aromizing, Eluxyl, and ParamaX are proprietary commercial names of Axens.
