July 2, 2003 - "Europe’s largest Prime-G+ unit for the Antwerp Refinery"
Total’s “Clean Gasoline Project” at the Antwerp refinery in Belgium is going ahead. The project is based on Axens’ Prime-G+ process, for the desulfurization of the FCC gasoline to less than 10 ppm. With a 57 500 bpsd capacity, it is Europe’s biggest Prime G+ unit today. The Antwerp refinery is one of the largest and most efficient refineries in Europe and produces low sulfur motor fuels and petrochemical base stocks. The Prime-G+ unit, currently at the detailed engineering stage, is programmed to be streamed in October 2004 and will enable the refinery to comply with future ultra-low sulfur gasoline specifications well ahead of the European 2009 deadline. Two other Prime-G+ are under construction in Total’s refineries and are due for start-up later this year. The Prime-G+ process, tailored for the treatment of cracked gasoline, is the market leader for this application. To date, this technology has been awarded 70 licenses for a total production of 1,900,000 barrels per day of “green” gasoline.
