September 23, 2003 - "Axens’ Integrated Mild Hydrocracker for Motor Oil Hellas"

Motor Oil Hellas has awarded Axens the license for a new mild hydrocracker to be commissioned at the Corinth refinery in Greece. The 37,000 BPSD unit will process a mixture of vacuum gas oils, furfural extract and slack wax to produce a low sulfur feedstock for the existing Fluid Catalytic Cracker (FCC). Moreover, the new plant is based on a proprietary, optimized integrated hydroprocessing scheme that directly produces ultra low sulfur diesel.

The new facilities will have the following advantages: - produce ultra low sulfur FCC gasoline
- increase the refinery’s diesel production
- upgrade the light cycle oil fraction to diesel
- treat a combination of heavy straight run, vacuum and visbreaker gas oils in a single hydrotreater and
- produce directly diesel that contains less than 10 ppm sulfur.

This project will afford a complete upgrading of the refinery motor fuels production in the Corinth refinery and enable Motor Oil Hellas to meet the challenge of manufacturing ultra low sulfur transportation fuels for future European market requirements.
