Galana has awarded Axens’ Performance Programs unit a Human Resources organizational study for the entire Galana Group. Started in March 2003, the study was completed in September 2003 with a presentation to the personnel.

Following an implementation phase brought about by the privatization of SOLIMA (Solitany Malagasy – Madagascar’s national hydrocarbon company), the Galana Group initiated the project as part of its plan to diversify and expand regionally. Galana’s strategic objective is to become the leading independent and private petroleum organization in the Indian Ocean, East Africa and Australia.

The study concentrated on the establishment of a human resource management system, including: the reorganization of job classifications and compensation methods; the application of performance evaluation procedures; the estimation of recruitment needs and the institution of specific training programs. A key objective is to promote the development of team motivation and competence as well as enhanced professionalism. As the project unfolds, there will be occasion to review Galana’s decision-making structure, to modernize management practices and to lay the groundwork for a true corporate culture.

Galana Africa

The Galana Group was created in 1991. Its activities include trading in crude oil and petroleum products, bunkering, refining and distribution. Galana owns and operates the Toamasina refinery and terminal on the east coast of Madagascar. With its installations and network of fifty service stations, Galana has not only a strong presence in Madagascar, but other important advantages that allow development in the region. The Group has advanced stages of investment on the islands of Maurice (lubricating oil formulation) and Tanzania (fuel oil supplier to a power plant).
