May 14, 2004 - "Sonatrach Selects Axens for Strategic Study"
Sonatrach has awarded Axens’ Performance Programs a crude oil and condensate strategic optimization study incorporating the refining and distribution network for oil products in Algeria through the year 2020. Sonatrach’s Naftec and Naftal subsidiaries are also included in the program. The study will encompass the development of a linear programming model for Naftec’s four refinery operations and Naftal’s storage and distribution networks. The model will provide Sonatrach’s Strategic Planners an integrated topside tool for the management and optimization of the company’s investments. The simulation of the refining and distribution network will enable the overall assessment of the economic return at a time when the Algerian government is contemplating the liberalization of the domestic oil products market. Investments to upgrade oil product qualities will be phased-in according to market demand and in response to export opportunities
