GAIL Selects Axens AlphaButol® Technology
A new ethylene dimerization unit, using Axens’ AlphaButol® technology will be installed at the petrochemical complex of GAIL (India) Ltd at Pata. The unit will have a production capacity 20,000 tons per year of high purity 1-Butene.
Based on homogeneous catalysis and associated to a low investment cost, the AlphaButol technology is designed and optimized to ensure a flexible and reliable source of high quality comonomer 1-Butene for downstream polyolefins applications.
GAIL (India) Ltd, after having started as a natural gas transmission company during the late eighties, has grown organically by building large network of Natural Gas Pipelines covering over 8500 Km with a capacity of around 160 MMSCMD; two LPG Pipelines covering around 1900 Km with a capacity of 3.8 MMTPA of LPG; seven gas processing plants for production of LPG and other Liquid Hydrocarbons, with a production capacity of 1.4 MMTPA.
GAIL is operating a gas based integrated Petrochemical plant of 410,000 TPA polymer capacity which is further being expanded to a capacity of 900,000 TPA.
The Company also has 70% equity share in Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) which is setting up a 280,000 TPA polymer plant in Assam.
