Sugars
Axens markets an etherification process that allows the production of ETBE (Ethyl Tert-Butyl Ether) from ethanol produced by fermentation of sugar or starch and isobutene.
Presenting a research octane number (RON) of 118 and being partially bio-sourced, ETBE is commonly used as an oxygenate gasoline additive. Unlike ethanol, ETBE does not induce the evaporation of gasoline. Axens also proposes an etherification process for the production of TAEE (Tert-Amyl-Ethyl Ether).
