Renaud Revel’s Challenge to help the research on sarcomas 09.11.2018
On the 14th and 15th of September took place the first edition of the Challenge “Renaud Revel” sponsored by ALSIP (the sports club of IFPEN in Lyon) which was celebrating its 50-year anniversary.
This moment of solidarity, conviviality and self-transcendence was an opportunity for IFPEN and Axens to support research on sarcomas, a cancer that arises from transformed cells of mesenchymal (Connective Tissue) origin. Indeed, the challenge has been named after Renaud Revel, an IFPEN Catalyst scientist and outstanding triathlete, who was swept away in 2016 by this largely unknown disease.
This sportive challenge was to connect Salindres to Solaize in two days, with a first cycling stage through the mountains of the Massif Central on Friday and a running trail relay (or a second cycling stage for some) on the following day.
15 employees of the Axens group, based at the plant in Salindres or the offices in Rueil, took part in this event. The challenge was of size with more than 300 km to ride or run in two days and more than 5000 meters to climb.
Upon their arrival in the Lyon area, IFPEN and Axens athletes were welcomed by many employees of IFPEN Solaize, and attended in a ceremony during which a donation was presented to the association Info sarcomas, in presence of Renaud’s family.
