Atol® - An innovative technology for bio-ethylene production through bio-ethanol dehydration
Profitable polymer grade bio-ethylene
Atol® is a technology for the most profitable production of polymer grade bio-ethylene by dehydration of 1st and/or 2nd generation renewable ethanol.
The bio-ethylene produced can be integrated in partial and/or total replacement of fossil hydrocarbon based ethylene in various downstream polymerization installations without requiring modifications.
Atol® bio-ethylene can therefore be fed into existing or new units of, for instance, polyethylene (PE), ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol (polyethylene-terephthalate (PET), polyolefins, alpha-olefins production for linear alkylbenzene (LABs) and polyalphaolefins (PAOs), benzene alkylation for polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile-butadienestyrene (ABS), polyvinylchloride (PVC), etc.
Energy saving has been the key driver for Atol®’s process development with the objective to minimize operating costs and carbon foot-print. As a result of its innovative and patented thermal integration, Atol® utility consumption is minimized.
Atol® performance
- 99+% ethanol per pass conversion
- Close to stoechiometrical ethylene yield
- Bio-ethylene purity: up to polymer grade 99.9+%
