Axens, Shaw and Total renew FCC Technology Alliance

DECEMBER 20 - 2006
Axens, Shaw and Total renew FCC Technology Allianc

Axens, Shaw Stone & Webster and Total Refining & Marketing have renewed their alliance to promote, license and develop fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) technology worldwide. Buoyed by success of the first agreement, which began in the early 1990's, and an increasingly strong interest in upgrading atmospheric and vacuum residues and vacuum gas oils, the alliance has been extended for fifteen years.

The agreement was signed by Jean-Paul Gouzard, Commercial Director Licensing of Axens, Ahmad Fatemizadeh, President Process Technology of Shaw Stone & Webster, and Olivier Alexandre, Vice President Research & Development of Total Refining & Marketing. Axens and Shaw Stone & Webster are the alliance licensors and provide basic engineering design. Total contributes to the technology under the Alliance, has implemented the technology in several of its FCC units and has taken advantage of the expertise of all partners in terms of development, engineering and operations in its refineries.

The alliance has been particularly competitive, generating licenses for 33 FCC/RFCC units, as well as numerous revamps on units designed by other technology providers. Over the last 12 months, the alliance has led to three FCC units. The more recent developments address the need for increased residue conversion to reduce fuel oil production and increased white products and propylene production.
