As it celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, the mid-sized industrial group details in its CSR report how it is developing technologies that enable the chemical and energy sectors to achieve a genuine industrial transition everywhere in the world. The company, which today generates around €1.1 billion in revenue, is increasing its investments in industrial transition, particularly in technologies related to the materials for electric batteries, the development of feedstock circularity of metals or plastics and the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).
The technologies and processes developed by Axens enable industrial players to optimize their environmental performance, improve energy efficiency, and reduce carbon intensity while also bringing low-carbon fuels and chemicals to market.
For 25 years, the Axens Group has been developing, together with its technology partner IFPEN, solutions for converting oil into cleaner fuels, particularly reducing particulate emissions—as well as for the purification of key petrochemical intermediates and gas, along with advanced air treatment solutions.
Across these markets, Axens offers a wide range of solutions to decarbonize or electrify existing sites, a key lever to reduce overall CO₂ emissions.
Over the past decade, building on its historical activities, Axens and IFPEN have developed a comprehensive portfolio of low-carbon processes covering the production of low-carbon fuels, including SAF, the chemical circularity of plastics and metals, and CO₂ capture for the most emitting industries.
Today, Axens is developing in France a portfolio of industrial projects focused on ethanol-based SAF production, chemical recycling of PET, as well as the production and recycling of critical metals for electric vehicle batteries.
An ambitious roadmap for a group supporting industries in their decarbonization journey
This major strategic shift toward the decarbonization of existing production assets, low‑carbon fuels, battery materials and circularity as a whole concretely reflects the new roadmap of the company led by Quentin Debuisschert.
The Axens Group is reducing emissions across its sites while developing technologies that help industries decarbonize. The company aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 30% by 2030 compared to 2019, its reference year. As its technologies have an impact beyond the Group’s own footprint, Axens also quantifies avoided emissions through projects using its solutions.
Water and waste are equally important in terms of environmental footprint. The Group is therefore working to reduce its water consumption by 20% and its non-recyclable waste by 40%, again compared to 2019.
Achieving these objectives requires ongoing operational changes, such as:
- The installation of high‑energy‑efficiency equipment or equipment using low‑carbon energy sources
- Re‑engineering processes to minimize losses and integrate eco‑design into manufacturing
- Embedding recycling at all levels of industrial operations
