High Propylene FCC

Axens has developed High Propylene FCC (HP FCC™) for traditional distillate feeds to produce 10-15wt% propylene. Depending on the quality of the feed and the propylene and other product targets, Axens can develop customized solutions for:

  • Maximum LPG and Gasoline or "High Propylene"
  • Maximum Propylene
  • Maximum Distillate & LPG
Over 60 new FCC/R2R™ units have been licensed
Over 250 revamps have been performed

R2R™

The Reactor-2-Regenerator (R2R™) design was developed to specifically meet the challenge of heavy resid processing.

The unique two-stage regeneration system permits safe regeneration of catalyst containing high levels of metals, principally vanadium that would otherwise rapidly deactivate the catalyst.

Key advances incorporated in the design include:

  • Best available feed injector technology
  • Riser temperature control with MTC
  • Catalyst mixing control with SCM technology
  • RS2™ high containment riser separation system
  • Vapor quench technology for high severity operation
  • Superior catalyst stripping with structured packing

Over 250 revamps have been performed
Extremely resilient on a wide array of feedstocks

VGO FCC

The reaction system is the heart of the process and is defined from the point of catalyst introduction into the riser to the catalyst discharge from the stripper. The entire system needs to be designed to work in concert to maximize performance for maximum distillate, gasoline or LPG production.

The refinery “money-maker"

HyC-10™

In HyC-10™, the mild hydrocracking units (MHC) diesel receives the entire H2 make-up needed for both reaction sections and is sent to a polishing reactor operated in once-through mode. In addition, HyC-10™ systems can be designed to co-process other difficult feedstocks present in the refinery such as LCO, light cracked GO and visbroken GO (HyC-10+ process).

Prime-D™ with renewable lipids co-processing

Due to several factors, mineral diesel fuels are being progressively substituted by renewable ones. As such, production of renewable diesel by co-processing of bio-feedstock with fossil diesel component is a new challenge to face.

Based on strong R&D programs, dedicated to Vegetable Oil conversion, Axens has developed a dedicated Prime-D™ offer for Vegetable Oil co-processing, in combination with Gasoil streams, to help clients optimize the use of their HDT units.

Axens has a long experience with the processing of renewable feedstocks:

  • Through its cumulated 25 years of R&D experience in lipid feedstock processing, for the production of first generation of Biodiesel (technology pioneered by Axens, with the Esterfip/Esterfip-H suite)
  • Axens is the licensor of the well-known Vegan® technology, which is a commercially available process for the production of renewable drop-in fuels (Diesel or Jet) from 100% lipid sources, using HDT technology.

VGO Hydrotreating/Mild Hydrocracking

The addition of VGO hydrotreating or mild hydrocracking units (MHC) upstream of the FCC can be an economically attractive solution to help to adapt overall FCC performance in terms of product slate, product qualities and FCC regenerator SOx and NOx emissions. Hydrotreated FCC feeds have less sulfur and higher H-to-C ratios. This in turn leads to greater volumes and better quality FCC gasoline.

Revivoil™

Revivoil™ is Axens Solutions' optimum route to lube bases from spent oil. This process, developed jointly by Axens and Itelyum (formerly Viscolube Italiana SpA), goes far to put spent oil rerefining on the fast track to success. Apart from the usual problem of collecting spent oil, traditional spent oil processing has been an underachiever when it comes to quality, yields, ecology and economics.

Safe, simple and environmentally friendly, Revivoil™ technology has the ability to re-process spent oils for the production of various grade of base oils ready to market.

Wax Hydrotreating

The merits of Axens’ process for wax hydrotreating are as follows:

  • No sludge disposal problems
  • Easy and reliable operation
  • Great flexibility of use
  • Low operating cost
  • High yield: around 99 wt% for all types of products assuming that the correct type of catalyst has been selected.

Most severe food specifications reached even for microcrystalline waxes.

White Oils Hydrotreating

When the objective is technical-grade white oils, a one-step process is required, that uses a catalyst and a configuration close to that of hydrofinishing for motor base oil production.

When the objective is medicinal-grade white oils, a second step is necessary after that required for technical-grade products, in particular to completely eliminate polycyclic aromatics. In all cases, those white oils comply with BGA, FDA and CODEX quality specifications.
