Gas Dehydration & Purification
Gas drying aims to prevent hydrate formation and free water condensation in gases. It is crucial in natural gas systems to avoid equipment blockage and corrosion issues, both for transportation facilities and downstream cold processes.

Axens dehydration portfolio covers all types of gases for onshore and offshore applications: sweet natural gases, sour gases with various CO2/H2S contents and even pure acid gases such as CO2 in CCUS applications.
Ensuring water dewpoint specification by an efficient and cost-effective technology is a major challenge in the natural gas industry. Processes using TriEthylene Glycol (TEG) as a dessicant are the most widely used and field proven solutions for flexible and efficient gas dehydration over various operating conditions. They are suitable for a large range of water specifications by adapting the TEG regeneration scheme. Axens offers the full spectrum of TEG technologies, ranging from conventional TEG units without or with stripping gas for non-stringent applications, up to its enhanced TEG Drizo® technology to achieve the tightest water specifications that match the requirements of most NGL recovery applications.
The sales gas production requires controls for both the water content and the hydrocarbon (HC) dewpoint of natural gases. The HC dewpointing is requested either to comply with the heating value or the HC dewpoint temperature specifications, or to extract and recover valuable Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) such as LPG or HC condensates to increase the gas plant revenues.
The water and HC dewpoints are usually performed in two steps:
- First, gas dehydration - for instance with TEG or regenerative adsorbent
- Then, HC dewpointing by cooling the dry feed gas to the appropriate dewpoint temperature
Natural Gas plants and LNG facilities face the challenge of solving feedstock contamination problems. The use of dedicated adsorbents helps operators to achieve specifications for improving their operations, upgrading the quality of their products or minimizing pollution.
